Being a role model

Do what I say and not what I do is a common phrase that is often repeated; however it only confuses children. Children will not do what the parent says, since they will do what the parents have modeled. Children model the behaviors that the parent has presented to them time and time again. Looking at the messages one sends to his or her child is easily seen by analyzing one’s own behaviors. The parents’ main goal is to always set a positive example that the children can model by.

Enhance the relationships between parents and teenagers

Its important to continually enhance and develop a healthy relationship between parents and teenagers. To focuses solely on the problems and concerns that teenagers face in school and at home such as bullying/ peer pressure and drug/ alcohol abuse, you can become in-tune with your children’s emotions and actions in every area’s of their lives. Most of the problems that we face on a daily basis happen because our thoughts are not in tune with our actions or because our values and beliefs are overtaken by having a low self-esteem.
